Posh murdered the Spice Girls

I’d heard about it a little while ago, but I hadn’t unleashed my full disgust on the matter until yesterday, when I was shopping with one of my best friends, Minus-5. We’d been happily singing along to ‘Wannabe’, when I told her what I thought she already knew, but obviously didn’t:

“I can’t believe the Spice Girls cancelled their tour!” I said.
She just stopped. “Whaaaaa?” was her only reply.

I explained that the SG’s had cancelled their tour in Oz, so those tickets she’d pre-ordered for us? Forget about it. She was so pissed off she almost spilt her strawberries and cream all over the 2 for $15 table at Jay Jays.

I found out this morning on my way to job number two that it was apparently all poshie’s fault. Her first priority was her fashion business and her kids. It was claimed that she only agreed to a reunion tour in the first place to show her kids that “mummy used to be a pop star”, and will never agree to another tour.

Apparently it's all one-lick-and-i'm-totally-full's fault.

So, in other words, for the other half of the world who were quite excited about seeing their childhood heroes live? Yeah, like, not happening. Just because we lucked out in the citizenship stakes, we miss out.

Well, I say….

PUCK YOU POSH!

Fire Study release

I've gotten hooked on the Study series from Maria V Snyder, with the first two books in the series - Poison Study and Magic Study, going straight into my top 10 (and i've ensured it's gone into all of my book-loving friends' top 10's too...), and my trawling through the internet has paid off.

Snyder has said in an interview that Fire Study will be the last novel in the Yelena chronicles, however it won’t be the last Study book for sure.

“Fire Study wrapped up Yelena's adventures and her character development nicely and is why there is a new main protagonist in the next book. However, I won't say you'll never see Yelena again. Poison Study was supposed to be a stand alone novel and I ended up with three.”

It’s supposed to surface sometime this year, so here’s hoping it’s out soon!

Twilight News

There’s excitement abound in the world of Stephenie Meyer, and for good reason. She announced yesterday that the official release date for Breaking Dawn is August 2, 2008! The countdown begins, I do believe…

Also, the Twilight movie has been set for a December 12 release this year in America, which means that us Aussies will only have to wait a few short weeks for our national release. I’m practically bouncing in my seat, I’m so excited. MTV has put a press release on their website too, covering an interview done with Kristen Stewart, who is playing Bella Swan:

MTV Movie Blog Page

I am just hoping upon hope that they don’t screw it up. Millions of us will want to kill them if they do, I’m sure.

Can't Wait

I am totally excited about the new McConaughey/Hudson team-up, Fool’s Gold. I saw the extended preview for it when seeing Juno, and got totally hooked. It comes out on the 7th of Feb in Aussie-Land, so here’s hoping it lives up to the hype.
Nothing like a shirtless Matt and a bikini-clad Kate to get the audiences in.

Another movie I’m psyched over is Jumper. I don't have much of an idea concerning what it was about, since all I had to go on was the poster, which, if you ask me is only 4 dollars away from the Matrix:

But it has Rachel Bilson in it, who I have missed immensely since the OC, so it can’t be too bad.

Juno

In A Nutshell:
Getting knocked up after your first time is not only awful, it’s practically a cliché. But this is the sad reality for Juno (Ellen Paige), who at 16 has just become impregnated by her best friend. Not being able to stomach the idea of abortion, she searches for the perfect family to raise her baby once it’s born.

What’s Good:
The movie starts off quirky and upbeat, and this remains a strong theme throughout. The music, like the movie, is of the indie variety, providing a very appropriate soundtrack. The script artistically implements humour without trying too hard, but hits the mark every time. The ending, while understandable, was not predictable.

What’s Bad:
It’s hard not to notice Juno’s somewhat apathetic approach to her pregnancy, and it can sometimes get in the way believing the situation. Her best friend also shares the same detached quality, although it would be almost automatic to expect the father to be a little more involved.

The added 2 cents:
Jennifer Garner stars as Vanessa, one half of the ‘perfect couple’ Juno seeks out to raise her child. It’s a different role for Garner, but she pulls it off well. This is shown especially in a particularly sentimental moment between her and Paige’s characters’ when she feels her future baby kick for the first time.
